Derric Van Rensburg
(1952) South Africa
Derric was aware of his artistic tendency from a young age. In 1970 he studied Graphic Art in Cape Town and worked as a commercial artist.
In 1986 Derric decided he wanted to be a full time fine art painter. His early art work sold quite easily, working mainly in watercolour. Derric taught art during this time and that is how he survived as an Artist. In 1990 Rensburg moved to a small town called Greyton in the Overberg and it was during the following six and half years that everything changed for him. Derric changed the medium he painted in from watercolour to acrylic and started painting local landscapes of wheat fields and vineyards and it was this change that opened his market to a much wider audience.
Derric’s style of impressionism and the influence of the Overberg with its patchwork of colours inspired him then, as it still does today. His brand of impressionism reflects the wonder of Africa, influenced more by shape and vibrant colour than any specific subject matter. This style turned out to be easily noticed by a large audience of art collectors world wide.
Derric’s art impacts his life daily as he wrote in the cover of a book he produced full of his paintings: 40 years of his life is represented in that beautiful book, probably something that most people would consider an incredible achievement. The various experiences that are written about in the book enables viewer to see the way he visualizes life and fundamentally how he captures life around him in vibrant color.
During a recent visit to the United Kingdom he produced works in his unique vibrant style with the paint flowing from his palette on to the canvas as if he was back home in Overberg.
