Henry H (Hillingford) Parker

(1858 – 1930) British

Parker was born in the Midlands and later moved to London. He studied at St Martins School of Art and later one of the Royal Academy schools. He worked for short time as an illustrator at the Illustrated London News. Henry developed an impressionist style of painting with vibrant colour and bold brush strokes in a style similar to B.W. Leader. Parker mainly painted Thames Valley, Kent, Surrey and Welsh landscapes with figures, rustic buildings, cornfields, sunsets and wonderful day time skies. Most of his paintings have location information on the rear canvas or stretcher. Though a successful artist Parker never exhibited in national exhibitions during his lifetime, he did exhibit in Canada and the USA. Henry painted under the names H D Hillier or H.D.Hillyer as he was under contract to a number of Galleries.
